The Château du Mesnil was built in the 17th and 18th centuries. Prince and Princess Kayali will welcome you to the residence’s guesthouse accommodation, which has previously played host to Victor Hugo and Saint Exupéry.

During your stay:

You can make the most of the 10 hectares of French formal gardens, the hedge maze, the ‘bird garden’, where you can listen to the call of budgerigars, not forgetting the chateau’s magnificent collection of 2,500 rose-bushes, winners of various prestigious awards.

In the chateau’s surrounding area and in the wider region, be sure to visit Dieppe, Fécamp and Etretat.
You will also have ample opportunity for strolls along the beach (the chateau is only 5 miles from the sea), visits to other gardens and chateaux, not to mention horse- and cycle rides and country walks!

The rooms:

What luxury room, which refinements should you choose? What about the ‘Marquise’ suite, with its four-poster bed and view over the French formal gardens, or perhaps the ‘chambre du Chevalier’ (Knight’s room) with Louis XVI furniture and a bathroom and toilet that are hidden behind the wood panelling.
Why not the ‘Suite du Comte’ (Count’s Suite), complete with furniture that will bring you back to the ‘Empire’ period of Napoleon III. Or maybe it could be the ‘chambre de conseiller’ (counsellor’s room), which boasts a luxury red and gold bathroom and an unbeatable view of the grounds. If you prefer a more intimate feel and appreciate the charming little shepherdesses that adorn the four-poster bed in the ‘chambre de la baronne’ (Baroness’ Room, see below), you will perhaps opt for this room.

It’s so difficult to choose, so maybe you should try them all!

For this standard of room and setting, you’ll find the prices relaxing too! They go from 75 to 85 euros per night for two people. The two suites are priced at 120 euros per night for two people.

From Calais, take the A28 then A29 motorways in the direction of Le Havre. Take the exit marked ‘Saint Valery en Caux’, (the chateau is well-sign posted as it is a heritage site.)

Sited in an idyllic Provencal location in a charming country house, boasting forested grounds that exude calm and well-being, not forgetting the cool waters of the stream that meanders through it all – the Auberge de Reillanne has it all. The auberge is located a few miles from Manosque (on the road between Apt and Forcalquier).

Inside, we have the dining room, walls hung with photographs taken from all four corners of the world. On the menu there are mainly local (and therefore seasonal) dishes and produce, which will be served to you around the fireplace.

On the first floor, we have six bedrooms, tastefully-decorated in natural materials, especially wood, bathed in the soft natural light of the grounds. Shade from the trees ensures rooms stay pleasantly cool.

We can highly recommend these rooms, their refined, tasteful feel and their peaceful setting as being ideal for a weekend or longer break to recharge your batteries.

To see: At Reillanne itself there are the ruins of a mediaeval castle and the chapel of St Denis. In the surrounding areas the villages of Céreste, Manosque, Banon, Forcalquier and others are well worth a visit.
